The service

Specialist fencing, laid to a high standard

Most fences fail at the posts, so that is where we start. We set posts in concrete at the right spacing and depth, then hang panels or build closeboard runs so the fence stays plumb and square. We fit panel, closeboard and feather-edge fencing, along with gates, and can take out and dispose of an old fence before the new one goes up. Where a fence sits on a boundary with a change in level, we step or rake it so it follows the ground cleanly. Garden fencing covers a lot of ground, from a simple panel fence between neighbours to a full closeboard or close board run screening a whole garden, and we fit whichever wooden fencing style suits the boundary and the level of privacy you want. Feather edge fencing, also written feather-edge, is one of the most requested styles we install, since overlapping boards give a solid, private run with no gaps once it has weathered in.

Fencing in Kew's conservation area can be restricted near the street, so we check height and style before quoting. For rear boundaries we fit closeboard or panel fencing on firm posts, with gates matched to the run.

How long will a new fence last?

With posts set properly in concrete and treated timber, a well-installed fence gives many years of service. Poor posts are what shortens a fence’s life.

Can you fit gates as well?

Yes, we hang matching timber gates as part of the fencing work.

What height of fence can you install?

We fit fencing to suit the boundary. Up to 2m at the rear is usually permitted development, with lower limits at the front or next to a highway, and we advise on what is allowed at the quote.

Do you remove the old fence?

Yes. We take down and cart away the old fence and posts before installing the new one, unless you would prefer to keep it.

Concrete or timber posts?

We usually set concrete posts with gravel boards, as they outlast timber posts and keep the panels up off the wet ground. We recommend what suits your run.

Can you fit fencing on a slope?

Yes. On sloping ground we either step the panels down or rake them to follow the slope, so the fence looks right with no large gaps underneath.

How much does fencing cost?

Cost depends on the length and height of the run, the style you choose (panel, closeboard or feather edge), ground conditions, and whether we need to remove and dispose of an old fence first. We always give a free, written quote after seeing the site, so you know the exact price before agreeing to anything.

How much does garden fencing cost?

Garden fencing is priced the same way as any other run: by length, height and style, plus site-specific factors like ground conditions and access. A simple panel fence generally costs less than a full closeboard or feather edge run of the same length, but we'll confirm the exact figure with a free site visit rather than guessing over the phone.

How do you install feather edge fencing?

We set concrete posts at the right spacing first and let them cure before fixing horizontal arris rails between them, then nail overlapping feather edge boards to the rails so each board covers roughly a third of the one before it. That overlap is what keeps the run weatherproof and private once the timber has settled in.
