The service

Specialist patios, laid to a high standard

A patio that lifts, cracks or holds puddles has almost always been laid on the wrong base. We build ours on a compacted sub-base and a full mortar bed, not on five spots of mortar under each slab, which is the shortcut that leads to rocking and hollow-sounding stone. We work in Indian sandstone, porcelain and natural stone, set the falls so water drains away from the house, and point the joints neatly so the finished patio stays solid and easy to keep clean.

Our process

How we install your patios

1

Design and quote

We look at levels, drainage and access, agree the layout and material, and price it in writing.

2

Groundwork

We excavate, lay the sub-base and set the falls before any stone is laid.

3

Laying

Slabs go down on a full mortar bed, cut in around edges and steps as needed.

4

Pointing and finish

Joints are pointed and the patio is cleaned down ready to use.

Pricing

What affects the price

Sandstone or porcelain, which is better?

Porcelain is harder-wearing and stays colour-stable, while sandstone gives a more natural look for less. We will show you both and explain the trade-offs for your garden.

Will the patio drain properly?

Yes. We set the falls away from the house and, where needed, add drainage so water never pools or runs back towards the building.

How long does a patio take to lay?

Most patios take a few days to a week, depending on the size, access to the rear and any steps, walls or extra groundwork involved. We give you a timescale with the quote.

Can you build steps or raised areas into the patio?

Yes. Split levels, steps and low retaining walls are a regular part of the patios we build, set out so the finished space flows and drains correctly.

Is porcelain slippery underfoot?

Good-quality outdoor porcelain is made with a textured, slip-resistant finish, which is one of the reasons it has become so popular for garden patios.

Can you lay a patio over an old one?

It is usually better to lift the old patio and build a proper base than to lay over it. We assess the existing base at the quote and advise on the right approach.
